Degree discipline: Engineering or related degree a range of mechanical, control, electrical/electronic and industrial engineering.
Engineers at AstraZeneca find themselves tackling all kinds of challenges, in an environment that's rich in technology and a culture that strives for the very highest standards of quality. Engineering at AstraZeneca covers a whole host of areas.
You could be involved in the construction and/or refurbishment of production plants, warehouses, laboratories and office buildings. Or your job could include working in bulk chemical manufacture, where there is the necessity to maintain these hazardous areas. You may even work in the aseptic manufacture of specialised drugs in highly contained environments.
Yet another avenue is the packing of many types of drugs for the customer and dealing with the day-to-day operational activities and the maintenance and improvement of existing assets.
One major advantage of forging a career in engineering with AstraZeneca is that there are jobs to suit all personalities and at many different levels of expertise. Some are highly technical, others managerial, yet more require persuasive skills and writing ability. The jobs range much wider than simply those for engineering professionals and the opportunities for career development are numerous.
Some of the jobs you could be involved in, in your first few years are:
- Technical Support Engineer
- Assistant Plant Engineer/Plant Engineer
- Project Engineer
- Building Services Engineer
There may be opportunities to get involved in other areas of the business like engineering contracts, design, facilities management and emerging technologies
The Graduate programme spans approximately 5 years where you will have the opportunity to work in 3 or 4 real roles to gain hands-on experience and work towards successfully achieving chartered status.
To help you towards chartership, we've created a variety of development programmes that combine formal training with on-the-job learning. These are accredited by the IEE or the IMechE. In addition you will be given a mentor to help support and challenge you, as you work towards gaining chartered status. Throughout you will experience real involvement, challenges and responsibility from day one.
You will be 'placed' in your first two roles to give you an opportunity to widen your horizons of engineering in AstraZeneca and present you with the chance to broaden you experience. After that we will help you forge your own individual career path based on your aspirations.
Engineering opportunities are available at a number of sites in the UK and there is an expectation that graduates will move between sites when required.
