Paul from Information Services
I joined AstraZeneca after doing a sandwich degree in Business Studies at the University of Central Lancashire.
"I enjoy regular use of the sporting facilities that AstraZeneca provides and I make use of the football facilities & gym whenever I can" Paul
I work within the Corporate Information Services function and my department supports business areas such as HR, Finance & UK Manufacturing. Since starting with AstraZeneca I have worked in a number of quite diverse roles from Application Developer to Project Manager. I dont think I was initially cut out for the role of Developer but some technical grounding was beneficial for me to aid progression into other IS positions.
One of my more recent roles was to project manage and co-ordinate the decommissioning of 2 global business critical systems for the AZ Forecast Management Group. This involved understanding the existing systems, 3rd party licensing positions and cost implications. I also needed to understand business requirements in terms of data retention and various system interfaces. The work involved regular interaction with relevant business and technical resources to enable me to complete the project.
I am currently seconded into UK purchasing for 12 months working as a Business Analyst as a part of the UK Purchasing Transformation Project. My main activities are to develop process models for 'As Is' and 'To Be' business processes, assess potential improvements against business requirements and investigate technical constraints with system proposals. I am also working on the site by site phased deployment of an e-Procurement tool, which is being rolled out across the UK. I took on the position to gain more business exposure and to experience working on a large UK wide Project.
I appreciate the way that AstraZeneca takes a big responsibility to continuous individual development in terms of regular development reviews with line management, as well as helping to identify suitable training, specific to future development aspirations.
I also enjoy regular use of the sporting facilities that AstraZeneca provides and I make use of the football facilities & gym whenever I can.
