Kevin from Analytical Chemistry
I studied chemistry at the Nottingham Trent University and I'd already worked in the pharmaceutical industry during my sandwich year, so I knew that I wanted to return. This was the first job I applied for after graduation and I was lucky enough to get it...Ive not looked back since.
"This year I helped organise an Analytical Chemistry symposium, with delegates from the UK, Sweden and India" Kevin
It's hard to believe I've been here 3 years; it hardly seems any time at all since I started. I've worked on a number of different drug projects each at different stages of development and each with its own unique challenges. To solve these, I've had to learn to use a vast array of modern, analytical techniques from LCMS to NMR and ICP-OES.
As a new graduate analytical chemist I was apprehensive about using all these techniques, but where better to learn than in a group of 30 analytical chemists!
Everyone is really friendly, approachable and there is always someone willing to listen and lend some advice when needed. All the training I needed was provided, for both technical and personal development. One area I'm particularly interested in is Solid State Analysis and I've been given the freedom and encouragement to explore and learn about these techniques.
It's not only drug projects Ive been involved in. This year I helped organise an Analytical Chemistry symposium, with delegates from the UK, Sweden and India. It was a fantastic opportunity to make contacts from other sites in a relaxed, social environment and also provided the chance to share learning, novel approaches to problems and new technologies.
